What is The Creative Runners Club?

The Creative Runners Club is an invitation to think about running a little more, and perhaps a little differently. Ultimately it’s an invitation to go and do some creative running. There is no registering for an account or membership fee. Just what you come up with.

People start running for many different reasons, and they keep running for many different reasons too.

Running with goals for faster times, or to run further than you have before, to smash personal bests or take on physical and mental challenges are amazing. I’m not telling you to stop: I’m not going to and have up coming races that I’d like to run in target times.

But I have started thinking about running a little differently.

In an interview with ultra runner and adventurer, Jenny Tough, she talked about how for most of us joining a race, we aren’t expecting to win. Why can’t we make running into a creative pursuit instead?

That idea stuck with me and I wanted to share it further. So I created this site.

Creative running can mean many things, and you can share what you come up with #CreativeRunnersClub if you want to, but you can just enjoy your creative run yourself, however you chose.

The two rules are just there as a reminder that even when you run alone, you don’t run in isolation. If it’s a big organised race then there are other runners with their own goals, supporters and staff. If you are running a trail as a solo challenge or a training run, other people use that trail too.

Also, you don’t have to “run” to join our informal club either, and I don’t just mean that you could also walk or wheel. Supporters are part of running too. Volunteers and staff at events are part of running too.

Respect others, run, and create something.
